Chesapeake Shakespeare Company

The Chesapeake Shakespeare Company, now in its 3rd season in Baltimore and 15th season in Maryland, is committed to bringing classic plays to life. It’s our mission to share engaging works of literature that should be heard, not just read. We love audience participation, so let’s get on our feet together and enjoy the words “off the page” and “off the stage.” Shakespeare is fun! Join us for wordplay, swordplay, and a staged reading of a play at the Baltimore Book Festival at the Inner Harbor, just a few short blocks from our Globe-inspired theatre for the classics.

"Desdemona"

Chesapeake Shakespeare Company presents a staged reading of “Desdemona,” a play written in 2011 by the Nobel laureate Toni Morrison. Through a series of poems and lyrics, Morrison reimagines the stories of the women in Shakespeare’s “Othello,” and empowers them to speak their minds about issues of gender, mixed-marriage, race, war, and love. Join us for this free reading, part of our 15th Anniversary Season exploration of “The World of Othello.”
